The following subjects need to be covered at a minimum:
1. English: Reading and Writing
2. Math
3. Social Studies
4. Science
Additionally...
When your student reaches 7th grade, Reading and Writing converts to Literature & Composition. Once you enter High school, a PE credit is needed in addition to all your other high school credit requirements.
See a list of high school credited needed here: https://ed.sc.gov/districts-schools/state-accountability/high-school-courses-and-requirements/
South Carolina law does not require that you cover all the subjects, every day. Just ensure you get them done at some point in the year. The law also does NOT require a certain amount of time you spend on school each day. This is a myth! You must follow the guidelines and expectations of your accountability group. Here at HCU, we follow the law. You do not have any daily time requirements, only that you complete school within 180 days.
** If you are coming out of public school, you will receive credit for the days your students spent in school **
You are required to keep SAMPLES of your student's work. You DON'T have to keep every single assignment. Nor do you have to keep your samples forever. I would advise keeping for 3 years and then you may toss them.
You may or may not utilize a grading system. Grades are not mandatory until high school.
You can use any planner of your choosing either via APP, website, or a paper planner. You have two options...
1. Plan out your assignments writing out what assignments you will be covering each day.
2. Work backwards! At the end of the school day, document what you covered for the day.
There is no right or wrong way to do this, it's up to you!
We have found that the following Record Keeping apps are widely used by our members...
There are HUNDREDS of options! You can purchase one, print free planner sheets online, or create your own on canva.com
